CASANARVA

Narom ara'n Arva, there is Light! Welcome to Casanarva and come join me in my shining, magic world! You have heard of the Seven Seas. If you sail the Eighth Sea, you will come to Casanarva, where touch-telepathic kings rule and Velnar Knights ride unicorn-like shahnarn into battle. For the last 5,000 years Darkness has ruled. Will you serve the Darkness, too, or stand with Etendil ra'n Arva, the prophesied Bringer of the Light? And who is this One foretold? How will we know him when he comes?

THE CASANARVA SCROLLS

The Casanarva Scrolls tell the history of the return of the Light to the world of Casanarva.

Background
The Ancient Civilization of Light, called the Vel by the people of Casanarva, fell five thousand years ago in a violent civil war.

At the end High King Aseenah was betrayed and taken prisoner. The night before his execution, Aseenah had a vision of the future. He saw that the world of Casanarva would be plunged into Darkness and his empire would break apart into squabbling kingdoms, but that in time a man would "bring again the Light to darkened Casanarva." This Bringer of the Light, Etendil ra'n Arva, would reunify the kingdoms in a new era of light and peace. Aseenah wrote down the signs of when this would occur, and this scroll is what we have come to know as The Ancient Prophecy. He gave this scroll and his magic Medallion into the hands of his Knight of Light and commanded the Velnar Brotherhood of Knights to guard his prophecy, to maintain honor and the other Velnar Virtues, and to watch for this Bringer of the Light.

During the following millennia of Darkness, the Brotherhood of Velnar Knights, who are elite swordsmen possessing magical power over the element of fire, have endeavored to uphold the Code of Light and the traditions of honor, justice, faith, loyalty, wisdom, truth, kindness, courage, and compassion.

A Lamp Shining in a Dark Place
Now, when little remains to remind men of the glory of the Ancient Civilization of Light, beyond the Velnar power over fire and the touch-telepathic power of kings, King Barlz of Savárseeya yearns to unite the kingdoms of Casanarva under his rule, and become High King himself. But the Savársee king has no interest in restoring the Light. He wants only power and glory for himself. And in his brutal conquest of the neighboring kingdom of Valtarmelsa, Barlz sets in motion the fulfillment of the last High King’s Ancient Prophecy: "Watch, my beloved children, for ye shall see a lamp shining in a dark place ere the break of day or the rise of the morning star."

Barlz’s own army commander, the Velnar Baron Tornival ra Saráy, spares the life of Princess Catreena, intending to present her to King Barlz as a possible mate for one of the king’s sons, but Saráy falls in love with her himself. A man of honor living in a dishonorable world and trying always to do the right thing, Saráy is doubly condemned, because as a member of the Saráyn ethnic group--long ago Assimilated by the Savársee physically, if not in heart and soul--he is hated and despised by the Savársee king he serves.

Set in this world where Velnar Knights conjure magic fire and ride unicorn-like shahnarn into battle, and where kings read minds and heal with a touch, A Lamp Shining in a Dark Place is the first book of the Casanarva Scrolls. I have also completed the second book, The Darkest Hour, and am working on the third, tentatively titled, Beacon Burning.
